As the time change approaches on Sunday, Nov. 1 Keller Fire-Rescue wants to remind residents to make another change that could save their lives - changing the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
To save lives and prevent needless injuries, Keller Fire-Rescue is participating in a national home fire safety campaign called Change Your Clock-Change Your Battery. Sponsored by Energizer, our fire department, and the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the program urges Americans to adopt a lifesaving habit: change smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector batteries when clocks are changed back to Standard Time each fall.
The peak time for home fire fatalities is between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. when most families are sleeping." says Keller Fire Chief Dan Gaumount. "Smoke alarm maintenance is a simple, effective way to reduce home fire deaths. Children and senior citizens are most at risk, and a working smoke alarm can give them the extra seconds they need to get out safely."
Please join Keller Fire-Rescue and fire professionals around this country and remember to invest some time to "Change Your Clock - Change the Battery in Your Smoke Detector." It is a simple message and an easy task to keep your family safe.
