Hello, Keller!

The bike safety summer program we anticipated having is cancelled. The bike officers had high hopes about the program and definitely want the program to be initiated. With the low registration turnout the bike officers are looking to have this program in the fall. The officers believe having the program on a Saturday during the school year will invite more participation. We look forward to the fall and educating the kids.

Safe Driving:

A rather heart stopping moment while driving your car is experiencing when you have lost control of the vehicle. One example of this is hydroplaning. This can occur when a sudden downpour of rain creates puddles and flooded gutters. Driving over these too quickly or making an evasive manuever can result in loss of traction. The car’s tires do not have a firm hold of the road because of the water and the vehicle has a gliding effect. This can be over quickly or can last a few moments. Exercising extreme care during the event of a big rain can be very helpful. If you do not have to drive, don’t risk it. Try and wait the heavy rain out until it is feasible to drive. If you are already driving when it hits, try and pull over in the first available parking lot until the rain subsides. If this is not practical, look for an overpass to pull under. Make sure you are clearly off the roadway and are not impeding traffic. If you must drive, drive below the speed limit and keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. Avoid driving next to street gutters and watch for heavily oiled spots in the roadway. A constant speed without quick acceleration or deceleration can help in reducing the chance of hydroplaning.

Stay safe while driving on the roadways this summer. The Keller Police want you to be accident free.
