The activities of the department include traffic safety and regulation, uniformed patrol, community services and education, crime control, animal services, public safety dispatch, and facility and equipment maintenance.

Chief Hafner has over twenty-eight years of police experience. He holds a Bachelor and Master's Degree in Public Administration and also graduated from the FBI National Academy. He has served as the Chief of Police in Keller since 2001. Chief Hafner is the staff liaison to the Keller Crime Control & Prevention Board of Directors. He also is currently a regional director of the Texas Police Chiefs Association and is the Chairman of the State Recognition Program. Chief Hafner is a Past-President of the North Texas Police Chiefs Association (2007-08) and sits on the Board of Directors of the KISD Educational Foundation. He resides in Keller with his wife and two sons.
