Hurricane Harvey: How to Help!
We've received several requests for information about assisting our fellow Texans being impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Here's how to help:
MONEY: The fastest, easiest and best way to help is through a financial donation to your charity of choice. The Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Catholic Charities and the North Texas Food Bank are all actively engaged in emergency efforts in South Texas and shelter operations across the state.
BLOOD: The Red Cross is asking for blood donations to support relief efforts, and you can find a list of local blood drive locations on their website. O Negative and O Positive blood, in particular, are in high demand.
DONATIONS: Please DO NOT take donated items to the temporary shelters in the area; they do not have the staffing or storage to support accepting, inspecting, sorting and distributing them effectively.
Donated items should be transported to Trusted World's new drop-off location in Garland (3000 W. Kingsley Road, Garland), which is being used as the donation drop-off and sorting center for area shelter efforts. Current donation needs for the North Texas shelters are:
- New Underwear and Socks (all sizes)
- Non-Perishable Food
- Feminine Hygiene Products
- Baby Diapers, Wipes and Formula
VOLUNTEERS: The Red Cross and Salvation Army have both put out calls for volunteers at area shelters, and Trusted World is accepting volunteers to help sort donations at their drive center. Details are available on the organizations' websites.
Thank you all for your compassion and generosity!
