Public meeting scheduled March 22 for Johnson/Keller-Smithfield intersection improvements
Keller residents, and particularly those who call the Johnson/Keller-Smithfield area home, are encouraged to attend a public meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, March 22 at Keller Town Hall, 1100 Bear Creek Pkwy.
The evening will offer attendees a breakdown of the results of Dunaway Associates’ comprehensive intersection control evaluation — which analyzed the operational, safety and cost efficiencies of various intersection control options at the Johnson/Keller-Smithfield intersection — and the chance to see concept plans for the intersection’s upcoming improvements. Residents will also be asked to share their thoughts on everything from lighting and landscaping at the intersection to the possibilities of public art, and will have a variety of staff on hand from the city and design firm to answer questions.
The Johnson/Keller-Smithfield roads intersection has been slated for improvement for several years, most recently reconfirmed in the city’s Thoroughfare Master Plan update in 2012. Plans for a roundabout at the intersection were also included in the 2013 Transportation Bond package, which was ultimately turned down at the polls by a single vote. It has remained on the city’s Capital Improvements Plan since then, and was approved for $925,000 in funding this fiscal year.
Dunaway Associates, who is handling the intersection upgrade designs, hopes to have their concept plan finalized by the end of May and detailed designs ready in early September. Construction on the intersection could start as early as mid-October, wrapping up in late spring 2019. For more information, call Public Works at 817-743-4080.
