Railroad quiet zones established at Golden Triangle, Keller-Hicks

Post Date:12/14/2018
Following completion of upgrades to the intersections of Golden Triangle Boulevard and Keller-Hicks Road with the Union Pacific Railroad, both railroad crossings are scheduled to go quiet as early as this weekend.

The adjustments mean that while train engineers crossing the intersections will still be allowed to sound their horns near the crossings if they believe it's necessary to do so for safety concerns in the moment, they will not be required to sound them (and will be encouraged not to). The quiet zone order begins on Saturday, Dec. 15, but city officials anticipate it may take up to a couple of weeks for UP employees to fully adjust to the change.

With the activation of the two new crossings' quiet zones, all Union Pacific Railroad crossings within the City of Keller's jurisdiction have been upgraded to federal quiet zone standards. The upgrades are part of a larger regional effort by area cities and Tarrant County that will ultimately include all 11 crossings that can be heard by Keller residents.
