Keller mourns the death of Councilman Ed Speakmon
It is with a heavy heart that we share with the Keller community that Mayor Pro Tem Ed Speakmon passed away Sunday afternoon. A former U.S. Marine, GOP precinct chairman and retired auto repair businessman, Ed was well known in our community as “Mr. Christmas” thanks to the elaborate, award-winning decorations that adorned his home each year.
“Of all my many years of involvement in this city, I never met a person who cared more about Keller or its citizens than Ed,” Mayor Pat McGrail said. “He was a great man who will truly be missed.”
Ed was elected to the Keller City Council in 2016, and had been looking forward to serving the community in other ways after choosing not to seek re-election in May. He was well known around Town Hall for his genteel nature, wonderful sense of humor and willingness to roll up his sleeves to get things accomplished. The thoughts and prayers of Mayor McGrail, our entire City Council and staff are with Ed’s wife, Candy, and their three children and grandchildren.
Mayor Pro Tem Speakmon will be honored with a moment of silence at the Keller City Council meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 5 at Keller Town Hall, 1100 Bear Creek Pkwy. Members of the community are also welcome to share their thoughts, memories and well-wishes with the family at a memorial display that will be available in the lobby of Town Hall this week beginning Tuesday afternoon.
