Water improvement projects to impact Mt. Gilead beginning Jan. 27, Bourland Road in February

Post Date:01/23/2020
Phase I of the city's Water System Capital Improvements Project is scheduled to kick off Monday with construction beginning on Mt. Gilead Road between Hwy. 377 and the southwest corner of Morris Drive, and also between Bourland Road and 200 feet east of Stegall Drive.

This project, part of routine maintenance of the city's water infrastructure, will include potholing and excavation, installing temporary water service to residences, water main replacements, new water main and service connections, backfilling, and pavement/sod replacement for the disturbed work area.

Construction is scheduled to begin Jan. 27, with the portion of Mt. Gilead closest to Hwy. 377 expected to wrap up in early April. The second section of Mt. Gilead may be completed as early as late February. Work west of Bourland Road is scheduled to run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Traffic controls (lane closures and their associated detours) are expected to remain in place nonstop during that time with all lanes left open over weekends. East of Bourland, closures are scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), reopening on nights and weekends.

Adjacent residents in both sections will continue to have access to their property during construction, and garbage, mail, delivery and other service vehicles will be allowed through.

Following Mt. Gilead's start, similar construction is expected to begin on Bourland Road between Mt. Gilead and the southeast corner of Lavena Street on Monday, Feb. 17. That portion of the project will have an estimated completion in late April. For more information, contact Public Works at 817-743-4080.
