Thanks to recent right-of-way acquisition, plans for the trail segment under construction on Mt. Gilead Road have expanded.

Originally planned to extend the existing 10-foot trail from Woodborough Lane to Roanoke Road, then turn north on Roanoke in the form of a 6-foot sidewalk for about 550 feet, the recent right-of-way deal has opened the possibility of extending that sidewalk all the way to Overton Ridge Park at 1509 Roanoke Road.

City Council members approved the project change order during the Oct. 21 meeting, bringing the total pedestrian investment to just over $703,000 from the Keller Development Corporation fund dedicated to park and trail capital projects.

This connection, which will help residents as far west as the Marshall Ridge neighborhood access Overton Ridge Park, is scheduled for completion next summer.
