Human case of West Nile Virus prompts mosquito spraying

Post Date:10/22/2025
Ground spraying for mosquitoes will begin on the west side of town tonight, following notification from Tarrant County that a Keller resident has tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Efforts will target roads within a half mile of a nearby trap, located at 151 W. Bear Creek Pkwy., with work scheduled between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on the evenings of Thursday, Oct. 23, and Friday, Oct. 24.

With incubation periods for West Nile Virus running up to 14 days, it's challenging to determine precisely when or where an individual contracted the virus. However, new guidance from the Tarrant County Health Department rolled out this mosquito season recommends spraying in the vicinity of a positive human case.

This is the first human case of West Nile Virus reported in Keller this year. The mosquito trap near this individual’s home tested positive for West Nile most recently the week of Sept. 5.

Especially with rain in the forecast this weekend, we encourage residents to continue vigilance in mosquito abatement measures as the season draws to a close. This includes draining any standing water on your property and using mosquito dunks or other deterrents as necessary.
