(Thursday Morning Update)
This page will be updated regularly as Winter Storm Fern makes her presence known:
ROADS
Keller avoided dipping below freezing overnight, so major thoroughfares and regional collectors throughout the city remain drivable. Keep an eye out for stubborn ice patches, though, particularly in shady spots along your commute.
Drivers should also still be especially careful as they exit icy driveways or make their way along neighborhood-level streets, as those have not seen as much progress as our treated thoroughfares. Today’s sunshine and warmer temperatures should help continue to thaw those roads.
Oh, and before you ask: Yes, the Keller Parkway/Keller Smithfield intersection is still blinking red. Please continue to treat the intersection like a four-way stop until TxDOT is able to dispatch a technician.
FACILITIES
All city facilities will open with their regular hours today. Please note that restrooms and water fountains in the park system remain closed, however.
VOTING
Early voting in the State Senate District 9 race ended on Tuesday, but the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for Election Day this coming Saturday, Jan. 31. Visit the Tarrant County Elections page for a full list of polling locations and to see live wait times: www.tarrantcounty.com/evote.
GARBAGE/RECYCLING
In an update yesterday, CWD announced that they will resume trash collection only on residents’ regularly scheduled pickup days beginning today.
Recycling, bulk and brush collections will not restart until next week. That said, residents who registered for the Jan. 24 or Jan. 31 leaf collections may still place their materials curbside; they hope to service those addresses this weekend. Please note that between lingering road conditions and potential landfill delays, CWD anticipates that services may still run behind. If your street is not serviced on your regular day, please leave your materials at the curb until they’re collected.
You can also assist ground crews by ensuring snow and ice have been removed from your bins and lids are not frozen shut.
Still no electrical outages in Keller! Fingers crossed that our luck continues. Please keep in mind that both Oncor and Tri-County offer outage maps on their websites, which will provide the most up-to-date information on restoration times should we lose power.
