Old Town Keller west of Hwy. 377/Main Street from FM 1709/Keller Parkway to Pecan Street

Start Date:

March 2016

Approx. End Date:

Spring 2017

Project Cost:

$4.25 million (Street Improvement Fund, Drainage Utility Fund and Wastewater Impact Fee Fund as well as General Fund fund balance)

  • Extend Lamar Street south to Pecan Street, creating new intersections at Olive and Pecan
  • Expand public parking (about 170 new spaces)
  • Enhance lighting (for both safety and aesthetics)
  • Add fencing along Hwy. 377 to improve pedestrian safety
  • Consolidate garbage receptacles and mailboxes
  • Build a linear, pedestrian promenade the length of the project to encourage activity away from the highway
  • Improve streetscaping and landscaping, including more prominently featuring the train engine at the end of Vine Street
  • Add outdoor seating and community areas, including benches and play elements like swings and a giant outdoor chess board
  • Build multiple gateway structures to provide an additional sense of place for Old Town
  • Connect Old Town to the city trail system via a connection at Pecan Street
  • Establish areas for permanent and/or rotating public art

Please Note: City staff continue to discuss with TxDOT plans to add a traffic signal on Hwy. 377 at one of the intersections between Pecan Street and FM 1709/Keller Parkway to improve vehicular and pedestrian access within Old Town. Those plans have not yet been finalized and may be included in Old Town Phase II.
