Following are the current property tax exemption and limitation (ceiling) amounts allowed by the State of Texas and/or the City of Keller. The following exempt amounts reduce the appraised value by the amount of the exemptions:
|Exemption Type||Exemption Amount|
|Homestead exemption||12% of appraised value (minimum exemption is $5,000)|
|Disabled citizen exemption||$10,000|
|Over age 65 exemption||$40,000|
|Disabled veteran exemption||$5,000 to $12,000, depending on the percentage of the person's disability|
|Additional exemptions may also be mandated by the State of Texas.|
Exemption amounts may differ for each taxing entity. For more information on tax exemptions, contact the individual taxing entities, the Tarrant Appraisal District, or the Tarrant County Tax Assessor/Collector.
In August 2004, the City Council approved Ordinance No. 1209 establishing an ad valorem tax limitation on residential homesteads of the disabled and persons 65 years of age or older, and their spouses (tax ceiling), as authorized and defined by the Texas Constitution, Article VII, Section 1-b, and the Texas Tax Code, Chapter 11. The tax ceiling was effective for tax year 2005 (fiscal year 2005-2006).
