Business hours for Permitting and Fire Prevention are Monday-Thursday 0730-1730, offices are closed on Fridays.
PERMITTING AND FIRE PREVENTION INFORMATION
The Fire Prevention Division/Fire Marshal's Office is responsible for review of fire-related issues in development, construction and occupancy. Permits are required in accordance with Section 105 of the 2021 International Fire Code, as amended and adopted. Plan Reviews have a fifteen business day review period and plans shall be submitted while taking the review timeframe into consideration. Business days are Monday through Thursday 0730-1730.
Permits are required for the following:
- Aboveground/Underground Petroleum Storage Tanks
- Access Controlled Gates
- Access Controlled Doors
- Carbon Dioxide Systems/Nitrogen Systems
- Clean Agent Extinguishing Systems
- Underground Fire Lines Commercial and Residential
- Fire Alarm Systems New and Modifications to Existing
- Fixed Extinguishing Systems
- Pyrotechnic Displays
- New Sprinkler Systems Commercial and Residential
- Modifications to Existing Sprinkler Systems
- Commercial Stand-by Generator Installations
- Tents and Membrane Structures
- Hazardous Materials
Construction permits are required for the installation of fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm and detection systems, standpipe systems, fire pumps, kitchen hood fire extinguishing systems, paint booth fire extinguishing systems, clean agent systems, compressed gas systems, flammable and combustible liquid systems, LP-gas systems, access control systems and tents and membrane structures. Installation or modification of a life safety system without first obtaining a permit will result in a fine of $250.00 or double the cost of the permit, whichever is greater.
