UPCOMING CHANGES TO YOUR MOBILE FOOD PERMIT EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2026

House Bill 2844, passed during the 89th Legislature, introduces a new statewide licensing system for mobile food vendors, administered by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

After July 1, 2026, when your Tarrant County mobile food permit expires, you must obtain a license from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). Local health departments will no longer issue Mobile Food Vendor permits.

  • Vendors must still comply with local zoning, fire, and health regulations until the statewide system is fully implemented.
  • Proof of an annual fire inspection is still required by DSHS and the City of Keller. The City of Keller will continue to provide food truck fire inspections. Passing annual fire inspections must be from within the State of Texas.
